DOT Highlights the Philippines As an Adrenaline-Packed Destination at 'The Outdoor Adventure & Travel Show' in Vancouver
The Philippine Department of Tourism (DOT) recently attended the Outdoor Adventure & Travel Show in Vancouver last February 14-15, 2009 at the BC Place Stadium, in its bid to highlight to promote some of the archipelago’s unique island adventures, as well as answer queries of those looking to learn more about the myriad of activities in which they can engage in while in the Philippines.

Residents and visitors of Vancouver and the rest of the neighboring cities of the province of British Columbia got a sneak preview of what Philippine Adventure Travel is all about – and why the 7,107 islands that comprise of this archipelagic wonder is a perfect destination for travelers looking to experience a combination of adventure, nature, and culture.

The Outdoor Adventure and Travel Show in Vancouver is Canada ’s largest outdoor adventure & travel show with over 300 exhibitors from a wide variety of recreational pursuits. This adventure and travel show has something for each and every active individual. It is a well established event that has a variety of water activities like paddling and scuba diving to outdoor ground activities like camping, rock climbing, and biking. This year, some 23,000 adventure travel enthusiasts, all of whom are committed to searching for their next heart-pumping vacation, attended the show. Boasting of a combination of retail shopping experiences with simulated outdoor interactive features and education, the 2-day weekend event was a success – with awesome participation from a massive selection of exhibitors, tourism bureaus from all over the world, interactive demonstrations, as well as celebrity guest appearances and presentations.

The Philippine Adventure Pavilion attracted quite a number of visitors who were interested in learning more about the traveling to the Philippines . The Philippine delegation, headed by the Philippine Consul General in Vancouver Ruth Morales Prado, was present to answer queries, distribute Philippine tourism-promotion materials and giveaways, as well as establish a presence in the adventure scene in British Columbia and the rest of Western Canada . Also in the Pavilion were Philippine Vice Consul Melanie Balisi Diano, as well as other officers and staff of the Philippine Consulate General in Vancouver and the Philippine Department of Tourism in San Francisco . A variety of cultural performances highlighted the Philippines ’ participation in this year’s Adventure and Travel Show.

Robin Esrock, Canada’s native, freelance travel writer and travel columnist for MSN, Outpost, and Chill Magazine in Canada; as well as co-host of the OLN/National Geographic travel series, Word Travels, which is being filmed in 34 countries on 6 continents, made a presentation that was very well attended on his version of The 10 Most Unforgettable Destinations – where Palawan was featured.
