If your site offers something other sites do not, you can send the press releases to media outlets such as local newspapers and television stations. You never know, your site may be profiled in a column or on a segment of the 6 o'clock news!
3. Self-advertising. One of the smartest things that you can do to promote your site is to add it to all your business information. You should list your website URL on your business cards, on your forum and email signatures, and if you have a business listing in the phone book, you should list it there, too.
Handing out your business card means that someone has instant access to know how to get to your website. When most people receive a business card, they might tuck it away. However, when they look at it again, you can bet they will be visiting your website to learn more about you!
4. Use advertising partners to your advantage. By finding a few sites that are on a similar theme, but not identical to your site, you can work together to promote one another's business at no cost. Having advertising partners can be as simple as trading banners with someone. However, this means that everyone that visits your partner's website will have a chance to see you as well. This is exactly what you want. Its not only good advertising, but it frees up your money for more expensive purchases you will need to make.
5. Give away free stuff. People love free stuff. Offer newsletters, e-book samplers or article auto-responders to be sent through email. You could offer additional free things such as
* Downloads (desktop backgrounds, website backgrounds, etc.)
* Forums
* A blog
* Articles for use on the visitor's website
This will convince people to visit your site often. They may come to see what freebies your website has available. If your site catches their eye, you can be sure that they will stay to check out exactly what your site is about and what it has to offer them.
6. Make your site interactive. People love community sites. They like visiting sites with active forums and things to do. Your goal is going to be to keep the visitor there long enough to discover all you have to offer. A good hook is a community feeling because they will want to become involved in all that is going on.
If you have the means, a great way to get visitors is a contest. The theme and prize for any type of contest would depend on what you wanted to offer and what kind of site you run.
Quick Tips:
Promoting your site does not have to cost a lot of money. There are several free advertising venues online. Use them to your advantage!
In the end, it is going to be the writing for your advertising, promotional material and press releases that will convince people to visit your site. Make sure the writing is perfect and people will come!

multiply social networkOne of the very first social networking sites that I have enjoyed is Multiply. But, it doesn’t seem to have the same pull as MySpace or Facebook. In spite that, I know a few people who are using Multiply actively. In fact, some of them are using it as a commercial platform, as some of its built-in features lend to ecommerce.
If you’re thinking of ways to monetise Multiply, here are some ideas*:
1) Use Market Feature – This has to be the most obvious built-in ecommerce feature of Multiply. Basically, when you sign-up for a Multiply account, you get a section on your Multiply site called “Market”. There, you can add products that you wish to sell – just upload photos, add a description, and include other details like pricing and categories. I know some users who build a full online store using this function. However, one drawback is that it doesn’t really have a shopping cart or built-in payment system. You have to arrange this yourself, either by finding ways to incorporate something like Paypal links to your market listings or coming up with alternative payment systems.
2) Create Affiliate-Linked Reviews – Another built-in feature of Multiply is a section called ‘Reviews’. It pretty much does what it says — you can write reviews of just about anything. Some people then review books, music, and other products – and add affiliate links to their reviews.
3) Write Other Affiliate-Linked Posts – As long as you don’t overdo the affiliate linking, you can actually add affiliate links to Multiply’s ‘Links’ section or even write-ups on the ‘Blog’ section. Just make sure you also include other interesting content for your contacts. Otherwise, you might just be seen as a spammer.
4) Create Gift Items for Sale – If you upload photos on your Multiply account, you can easily turn them in to gift items such as photo books, calendars, cards, and prints through Multiply’s Shop. Once you have such items available, you can sell them – anywhere you want (including your ‘Market’ section on Multiply!).

multiply social networkOne of the very first social networking sites that I have enjoyed is Multiply. But, it doesn’t seem to have the same pull as MySpace or Facebook. In spite that, I know a few people who are using Multiply actively. In fact, some of them are using it as a commercial platform, as some of its built-in features lend to ecommerce.
If you’re thinking of ways to monetise Multiply, here are some ideas*:
1) Use Market Feature – This has to be the most obvious built-in ecommerce feature of Multiply. Basically, when you sign-up for a Multiply account, you get a section on your Multiply site called “Market”. There, you can add products that you wish to sell – just upload photos, add a description, and include other details like pricing and categories. I know some users who build a full online store using this function. However, one drawback is that it doesn’t really have a shopping cart or built-in payment system. You have to arrange this yourself, either by finding ways to incorporate something like Paypal links to your market listings or coming up with alternative payment systems.
2) Create Affiliate-Linked Reviews – Another built-in feature of Multiply is a section called ‘Reviews’. It pretty much does what it says — you can write reviews of just about anything. Some people then review books, music, and other products – and add affiliate links to their reviews.
3) Write Other Affiliate-Linked Posts – As long as you don’t overdo the affiliate linking, you can actually add affiliate links to Multiply’s ‘Links’ section or even write-ups on the ‘Blog’ section. Just make sure you also include other interesting content for your contacts. Otherwise, you might just be seen as a spammer.
4) Create Gift Items for Sale – If you upload photos on your Multiply account, you can easily turn them in to gift items such as photo books, calendars, cards, and prints through Multiply’s Shop. Once you have such items available, you can sell them – anywhere you want (including your ‘Market’ section on Multiply!).

Project Good Samaritan: Kibungan

Diane Domes, a government worker in Kibungan who has assisted Climbing For Christ on our ministry to the people in the mountainous Benguet Province in Luzon, had to fly to Baguio City by helicopter in the aftermath of typhoons Ketsana and Parma (known in the Philippines as Ondoy and Pepeng, respectively).
“Kibungan is isolated due to numerous landslides,” C4C Philippines coordinator Ace Concordia reported after getting a phone call from Diane on Oct. 14. Dozens of landslides have killed at least 120 people in the Benguet Province along the Cordillera mountain range.
While she was there, Ace felt a “deep burden” to check on the people of Kibungan. He called Diane. “Sir,” she told him, “we lack supplies of rice, gas, candles, and there are no more available groceries and canned goods.”
With this news, Climbing For Christ turned Project Good Samaritan in Manila into a two-pronged relief effort. Ace wired Php30,000 (U.S.$645) to Diane to aid our friends in Kibungan. Kibungan is a municipality with a population of 15,036 people in 2,949 households, according to a 2000 census. Barangays (villages) in Kibungan include Tacadang (population 2,213), Badeo (819), Palina (1,408), and Poblacion (2,391).
“Please allow me to express our deepest concern for Tacadang and Kibungan in the aftermath of the recent storms,” Ace told Diane. “Climbing For Christ has always considered Kibungan as the prime mission field, where the Lord wants us to become a blessing. In light of this, we would like to help the current relief efforts that we know will be needed in Kibungan and Tacadang.”

Diane told Ace the funds would be used “to help those affected families by landslide; others would be used to purchase additional relief goods.”
“Thank you, sir, and the whole C4C organization,” Diane wrote. “God bless you a thousand-fold.”
Project Good Samaritan has provided Php76,295 (U.S.$1,635) so far. Climbing For Christ sent U.S.$1,662 from the United States on Oct. 9. An additional U.S.$1,100 will be sent the week of Oct. 19.
Anyone moved to help Project Good Samaritan in Metro Manila and the municipality of Kibungan, can contribute to Climbing For Christ. Please pray for these ongoing relief efforts.

The mountains of Kibungan offer deep ravines and rocky cliffs, leading to incredible rice terraces in remote villages such as Tacadang, Palina, and Poblacion. Climbing For Christ Philippines has been ministering in this area since August 2008. One of the area’s points of interest is the magnificent Les-eng Rice Terraces (photo above). It is a 6-to-8-hour trek from the village of Kibungan to Tacadang and then another two hours to Les-eng.
Cost: U.S. $500, excluding airfare to Manila. Costs include transportation, food and hotel accomodations in Manila, round-trip transportation to Kibungan, and food for the trek.

As part of our advocacy to promote responsible mountaineering, Action & Fitness contributing writer Elmer Cabotage will conduct a lecture entitled Travel and Backpacking in the Philippines : An Introduction to the Basic Mountaineering Course on December 14, 2009 at the ROX-Center for Outdoor Recreation and Education. The talk includes practical tips on planning and organizing adventure travel, equipment selection, cultural sensitivity and a brief presentation on Leave No Trace Ethics. The lecture is presented in cooperation with the Mountaineering Federation of the Philippines Inc. Education Committee, Recreational Outdoor eXchange - CORE, Habagat, Action and Fitness magazine and supported by Columbia, Sea to Summit, Eagle Creek, Nalgene, and Nissan Navarra.
