E-load
E-load is an electronic way to add load to a mobile phone. Today Globe Telecom, Smart and Sun Cellular offer e-load service allowing people within the Philippines to purchase as little as 35 pesos at a time. E-load is sold by many sari sari shops in the Philippines. E-load is also used by some internet retailers or services on the web such as Aryty. E-load is not only a fast and efficient way to buy load but also good for the environment as there are no physical scratch cards involved. AutoloadMax is an e-load service offered by Globe Telecom.

Etoload

Globe Telecom
Globe Telecom is the second largest mobile phone operator in the Philippines. They have about 15 million customers in the Philippines. Globe brands or services include Globe Kababayan, ShareALoad, GenTxt, Globe Handyphone, Hub e-shop, myGlobe, Globe Platinum, Touch Mobile and G-Cash. Globe offers electronic load via their AutoLoadMax platform. Globe is also a member of the Bridge Alliance which allows Filipino’s to buy load via other Bridge Alliance partner stores. Globe Telecom also is part of One Ayala serving OFW’S and Filipinos abroad. Globe is a public company in the Philippines.

GSM Phone
The mobile operators in the Philippines operate on GSM networks allowing anyone from outside the Philippines with a GSM phone to roam on their network when traveling to the Philippines. GSM phones use sim cards. The GSM Association can be found here.

Load
Prepaid airtime in the Philippines is called load. 98% of mobile phones in the Philippines are prepaid and require load. Although it is free to receive calls or text messages it is expensive to make calls or send text messages. Due to the communication requirements that Filipinos have they will frequently run low or out of load. Giving load to someone prior to starting a text chat with them is common courtesy. Within the Philippines you can do this using Pasaload or Shareaload. To send load from outside the Philippines you can buy a scratch card and send the PIN number or use an internet service that offers e-load. Load Expiration
Mobile phone companies control their load inventory by having a load expiration period. Larger loads usually have longer expiration periods. Once your loads expires you forfeit any unused load. If you anticipate not finishing a load by expiration you should consider passing the load to a loved one using pasaload or shareaload. Globe offers 18 days expiration on 150 peso loads as example of how long load last.

Load Increments
All load is sold in predetermined fixed amounts. Each carrier has different amounts and some that are the same as others. Frequent load increments may include 35 pesos, 150 pesos and 500 pesos. It is easy for anyone to buy load with so many load sizes available.

Loadmebaby
This is a website allowing you to purchase load for Globe, Smart or Sun phones. They accept Visa, Mastercard and Discover as payments. Once you have seleced the amount of load you want to buy Loadmebaby will give you the card number and pin to load your phone. This is not an eload service.

Pasaload
Pasaload is a service of Smart Telecom. This service allows people to transfer small amounts of load from their phone to any other prepaid phone on the same operators network. You can pasaload the first time with no registration required. To continue passing load you must register. There are daily security limits on how much load you can pass and the load usually expires within 24-48 hours.

Pasalubong
This is the term used for souvenir in Tagalog. Philippine culture encourages pasalubong and a typical gift may include fruit, candy or t-shirts. Sending load is also a form of pasalubong that your Filipino friend or loved one will appreciate.

Pinay
The term used for a female Filipino. Many people abroad want to meet Filipina’s or marry Filipina’s. Sending load to a Filipina is a nice way to show you care about her needs as it is a practical gift that will allow you to stay in touch with her and help her family. Sari Sari
Sari Sari shops are the small bodegas of the Philippines. They are found primarily in the provinces or outside the CBD of Manila. Sari sari ships offer most goods in daily demand from candy and soda to e-load. In addition to selling attractive assortments of goods they also offer them in sachet sizes.

Scratch Card
These are the cards sold by stores that contain load. Very similar to long distance phone cards, load cards have a PIN the must be entered by calling the carrier whose phone you are loading. Load cards are bad for the environment and not suggested, Be an ecofriendly loader!

ShareALoad

SIM Card
GSM phones require a SIM card to function. SIM cards are the brain of the phone issued by a mobile carrier and contain the phone number of the phone and the address book. SIM cards are widely available in the Philippines and allow people to easy switch carriers by swapping out the SIM card. Sim cards expire when they run out of load and are not reloaded for a period of time determined by the carrier. Many people outside the Philippines use a Philippine SIM card allowing their loved one in the Philippines to reach them by calling or texting their local SIM number. Using a SIM card from the Philippines outside the Philippines requires activating the SIM for roaming.

Smart Corporate
Smart is a wholly owned subsidiary of PLDT in the Philippines. Smart is the largest mobile service provider in the Philippines with over 25 million customers. They have a GSM network and also offer 3G service. The Smart brands include Smart Buddy, Smart Gold, Smart Infinity, Smart Money, and Smart Padala. They also own Addict Mobile, Smart Bro and Text ‘N Talk. Subscribers abroad can buy Smart load for Smart Buddy or Addict Mobile using an online loading service. Sun Cellular
On March 29th, 2003 Digitel launched Sun Cellular. Sun is the 3rd largest mobile service company in the Philippines. Their network is GSM and services over 2 million Filipinos. They have many value added service offerings such as IDD, international sms and the ability to transfer load balance between Sun subscribers. They are most well know for their 24/7 Call &Text Unlimited which quickly attracted many subscribers.
